THE CHALLENGE: Kids: Fun Stuff to Do Together a ground-breaking kid-centric publication from the team at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (MSLO). Every story was an opportunity to be colorful, creative, and inspiring — with plenty of signature MSLO "how-to" flair. The challenge was keeping each issue feeling cohesive and fresh while using the established design framework. Also, collaborating with many illustrators, photographers, prop stylists, editors, senior art directors, and copywriters.
THE SOLUTION: As a young art director, I worked on front of book, back of book, and the Pigs! special activity insert sections from design concepts to photoshoot coordination to final production. Color and whimsey was key, as was creating the perfect photos — no stock shots here! Each layout was sketched ahead of time, the photos produced and shot in studio and on location and illustrations commissioned... all culminating in a final layout that was both fun and inspirational.
AWARDS: Silver, Magazine of the Year Award (2005) from The Society of Publication Designers
