THE CHALLENGE: Osher Lifetime Learning Institute (OLLI) at University of Southern Maine was looking for a refreshed design for their course catalog and workshop brochure. The new design needed to be easily read by their older demographic (no tiny type!) and would need to be produced in both print and as an accessible PDF. The design would be used as a template for future pieces, so also needed to be easily reproduced in a timely manner.
THE SOLUTION: The overall catalog layout was transformed into a more editorial-style piece with clearer typographic hierarchy, a portrait orientation, full bleed images with inspirational quotations, and a focus on the "O" in the existing logo. The single index was expanded to three (by schedule, by instructor, and by class topic) to better cater to what potential students might be looking for. All indexes and both internal and external references were hyperlinked in the digital version. Also created: icons for the three learning experiences (in-person, digital, and hybrid) and a brand new interactive registration form. The brochure followed the catalog design and was rearranged for better readability and flow. The new materials have been received very well by the community and we have created four catalogs and two brochures to date!
